Clean, affordable energy focus of UVM summit

Posted: Updated:

The Clean Energy Finance Summit says it's making progress towards more affordable energy.

The Summit -- meeting today at the University of Vermont -- hopes to expand small-scale renewable energy projects for homeowners and businesses in Vermont.  Officials would like to make those projects more affordable through different finance models. They hope those models will help implement more of the Vermont Comprehensive Energy Plan, which Congressman Peter Welch says is already making a difference.

"A big challenge in any new technology is getting it to scale so the cost comes down and it's affordable, and they're talking very much about those practical steps that have to be taken in order to allow everyday homeowners to have this as a realistic step that they can take," Welch said.

Governor Peter Shumlin also signed three bills that will improve access to energy efficiency and clean energy for Vermonters. Supporters hope to see a one-to-two year strategy put in place to help advance clean energy here in Vermont.
