BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Jury selection is set to begin Sept. 3 for a Vermont man facing a federal death penalty trial on charges that he abducted and killed his 12-year-old niece.

The U.S. District Court in Burlington has scheduled nine days to choose a jury that will hear the case against 47-year-old Michael Jacques of Randolph.

Jacques is charged with kidnapping with death resulting and other charges stemming from the 2008 abduction, sexual assault and killing of Brooke Bennett who was last seen leaving a Randolph convenience store. Her body was found a week later in a shallow grave near Jacques' home.

Even though Vermont has no death penalty, Jacques is facing the death penalty under federal law.
