BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The town of Brattleboro is putting off a decision on repairing the ailing Nelson Withington Skating Rink in the Vermont community because the only estimate came in $100,000 more than townspeople had approved.
Recreation and Parks Director Carol Lolatte told the select board only one bid came in to upgrade the rink, for $471,000.
In March the community's Town Meeting representatives approved spending $364,000 for the upgrades.
Town Manager Sondag says it appears the town will receive a $100,000 grant to help pay for the rink repairs.
The Brattleboro Reformer is reporting that at the end of last winter both compressors failed and the town had to invest about $7,500 in the rink to keep the equipment going.
