Vt. Labor Dept. offers help to laid-off IBMers

Posted: Updated:

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Labor is holding more sessions this weekend to help laid-off IBM employees.

State officials said last week that IBM had notified them that a national reorganization would result in job losses in Vermont. IBM spokesman Jeff Couture had said the company does not publicly discuss the details of staffing plans.

The Labor Department will hold two more sessions in South Burlington on Saturday for workers laid off from the Essex Junction plant.

Department staff will provide information about services available to those who have lost their jobs, including job placement and training programs, unemployment insurance and how to research job information.

The sessions will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in South Burlington at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
