NH's Cannon aerial tramway celebrated

Posted: Updated:

FRANCONIA, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire is celebrating the 75th anniversary of Cannon Mountain aerial tramway in Franconia.

On Friday, New Hampshire residents can get in for free to the Flume Gorge, Aerial Tram and Echo Lake Beach as part of the celebration.

Fireworks will take place over Echo Lake at the base of Cannon Mountain on Friday night.

Cannon's original aerial tram was built in 1938 and was the first passenger tramway in North America.

It was retired in 1980 and replaced.
