Shaw's gets rid of rewards cards

Posted: Updated:

Attention Shaw's shoppers: Changes are on the way.

The supermarket chain is trying a new marketing strategy, eliminating its savings rewards cards and lowering prices on thousands of items. Shaw's says the goal is to simplify the shopping experience.

The grocery stores will still offer weekly sales.

They say the company looks strong.

"We have actually 19 total stores in Vermont and none of the stores are going to be closing. There's no big changes, no layoffs coming or anything like that. It's actually the other way where we're doing a lot of staffing, a lot of hiring and growing the stores," said Kevin Lutz, a Shaw's store director.

Lutz says the South Burlington location alone has hired 40 new employees since new ownership took over and is continuing to hire.
