GRANVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - A 26-year-old man described by police as a disabled Iraq war Army veteran has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting two police cars from attic windows.
The Glens Falls Post-Star reports that police were called at 10 p.m. Friday to a home in Granville, 60 miles northeast of Albany. While one officer talked to a woman on the front lawn, gunshots from attic windows struck two patrol cars. Nobody was hurt.
Police heard a third shot as they evacuated nearby homes. After trying unsuccessfully to contact the man overnight, police went into the house and found 26-year-old Jonathan Hyatt dead with a Remington Woodsmaster 750 rifle beside him.
Police say Hyatt served with the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq, but was discharged with a traumatic brain injury.
