A traffic nightmare for drivers in Burlington.
A sinkhole shutdown Battery Street. Road crews believe a sewer line failed, causing the hole. Crews hope to have the road patched up in time for the morning commute as a temporary fix.
But Public Works Director Steve Goodkind says there's a bigger problem.
"This liner's been damaged -- the pipe is not. It can't take quite the flow it used to take. That might not be as big a problem as the fact that if water gets behind it, it could do more damage. It could collapse the whole thing, so we got to prevent that from happening," he said.
Right now only one northbound lane is open.
