The July 3 waterfront fireworks show in Burlington is the marquee event for the city's Parks and Recreation Department and the kickoff to "Heart your Parks" month.
The nation delegated July as Parks and Recreation Month back in 1985 and the celebrations have been ongoing ever since.
It's a way to highlight healthy lifestyles and the hard working staff who keep our open areas clean and safe.
Department officials say our state would be very different without all of these great spaces.
"It would be a totally different kind of community. We really make a difference, we are essential to the community and that's why we celebrate July," says Maggie Leugers with the Burlington Parks & Recreation Department.
You can find posters throughout the state -- fill one out and tell people why you love your neighborhood parks.
