Vermont adopts Next Generation Science Standards

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Vermont State Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt the Next Generation Science Standards.

The goal is to make sure students in different states learn the same thing. Then, it is believed, this common curriculum will enable students with a level playing field in competing for college and jobs.

Vermont is joining four other states in adopting these science standards. Rhode Island, Kansas, Kentucky and Maryland are the other four.

Vermont's Education Secretary Armando Vilaseca explains the change.
