Dozens of friends and family packed the Rutland District Courthouse Monday morning for the emotional arraignment of Christopher Sharrow, the man charged with killing 32-year-old Kristen Parker.
Court papers say Sharrow strangled and beat Parker to death on July 5th. He denied the 2nd degree murder charge.
Police were called early last Friday to the Pittsford home where Parker and Sharrow lived with their three young children, after someone heard screaming. Police say Sharrow beat, strangled, and sexually assaulted Parker. She was pronounced dead at the scene. An affidavit states that neighbors could hear the children crying for their mother the night of the attack.
Born and raised in Rutland, Parker was one of seven siblings. Her family says losing Kristen has been extremely difficult and that taking care of her children is a priority. "It's not just that first week or the first month, it's a 17 year job to make sure that her angels grow up to be productive citizens," said Parker's brother, Dave.
The family says they are in the process of starting a foundation to help raise money for the three young children. They say a gravestone has already been donated by community members. "I think I saw a quote once, that it takes 10 positive things to overcome one negative. And we are overwhelmed with the outpouring support so far for the kids," Dave Parker said.
Christopher Sharrow's family was in court, but declined to talk.
