Domestic violence signs, help

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Four weeks, four murders and police say the victims were all casualties of domestic violence.

In Danby, police say a woman was stabbed by an ex, then the stabber was killed by the woman's new partner. In Peacham, police say a man killed his ex-wife's new husband then himself. In Pittsford, police say a mother was killed by her boyfriend in her home with her three children present. And in Unity, N.H., a woman was found dead. Her husband is in Vermont fighting extradition on murder charges.

The Vermont Domestic Violence Fatality Review Commission says in the last 18 years half of all homicides in Vermont were domestic violence related.

Karen Tronsgard-Scott is the Executive Director of the Vermont Network Against Domestic & Sexual Violence. She describes indicators of violence and what friends and loved ones can do to help.
