Students from China visit Vermont

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Some students from China are spending part of their summer in Vermont.

The 21 young people attend the Vermont International Academy in Shanghai. The school has been up and running for a year. It's designed to help attract more international students to Vermont's colleges.

This week the students are visiting Burlington and have spent the last few days participating in mock trial debates with American students.

"It's an amazing chance to interact with students from China, hear their ideas and really work with their different perspectives and in the end get them to synthesize and compromise on something together," said Michael Zhang, who organized the mock trials.

Four students from the academy have enrolled at Vermont colleges for the fall.

The program also allows Vermont high school students to study abroad in China.
