Job fair for laid-off workers

Posted: Updated:

Workers who have been laid off recently will have an opportunity next week to meet with employers who are hiring.

Recent layoffs at IBM, Energizer in St. Albans and North Country Hospital in Newport prompted the Vermont Department of Labor to host the job fair. In addition to a meet and greet, there will be workshops on topics ranging from resume writing to starting your own business or restructuring finances. They're expecting 60 employers to participate.

"Everyone who is coming-- every Vermont employer who is coming to this event, has current job openings. So, that's very exciting that we've got that many employers who are interested in talking to Vermont employees who have a good skill set and good work ethic and are coming to the fair," Vt. Labor Commissioner Annie Noonan said.

The job fair will be held July 15, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Sheraton in South Burlington. Noonan suggests bringing plenty of resumes and dressing professionally.
