Looking for a taste of Vermont? The Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center is about to open in Newport.
Officials say the final touches on the Tasting Center are now in the works and in just a few weeks, it will serve as a culinary destination for tasting locally produced food and beverages. Visitors to the downtown site on Main Street will be able to sample cheeses, maple products and baked goods. A bistro with a local butcher shop will also be available.
Officials say the new tasting center will be good for tourism and the economy.
"They're going to be hiring between 30 and 40 people. It's very exciting. So, it's a real job creator as well as job protector, because they're working with local farms and producers-- that's, you know, helping those producers increase their business as well as keep it the same," said Patricia Sears of the Newport City Renaissance Corp.
Sears expects the new tasting center will draw big crowds from Canada. It's due to open in early August.
