BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The truck driver who first responders say saved lives is making progress following a horrific crash.

Dany Gautier saw a three-car pileup ahead of him on Interstate 89 in Winooski last month, and veered off a bridge, avoiding an even worse accident.

Gautier was critically injured and began his recovery at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. His fiancee tells WCAX News he's now been transferred to a hospital in Montreal. He's alert, eating and talking, but still suffers from a head injury and gets confused. He has numerous surgeries ahead, but he's doing much better.
