Before most people roll out of bed, some people in Williston are already starting their day in an intense way. Welcome to Champlain Valley Crossfit.
"It's strength and conditioning program and it changes your life completely," Dani Horan said.
Horan, 25, is a coach at the Crossfit facility. She boarded the Crossfit train two and a half years ago after never going to a gym.
"Crossfit took my life over," she said.
Cindy Condos has a similar story, first starting the core and strength training workout two years ago.
Reporter Gina Bullard: It's almost like a cult. Why do people get so crazed about it?
Cindy Condos: I think it's the strength and energy it gives you. It's like, I can do this.
Condos signed up after she was scheduled for spinal fusion surgery because of arthritis in her back. She's 60.
"The surgeon said core strengthening. Someone told me about Crossfit and I said, 'I can't do it because I have a bad back.' And he said, 'Oh yes, you really should do it.' So everything we do is about the core," Condos said.
She never had to get the surgery. For Condos, like many people, it was all about baby steps. It's a workout that will test your limits. And these two women are about to participate in the ultimate test of fitness-- the 2013 Crossfit Games in California. It's a grueling playing field where the world's toughest athletes compete to earn the title of "Fittest on Earth." Condos will compete in the 60 and over category and Horan in individual women.
"I have to remind myself I can't keep up with the 20-years-olds, but it's empowering," Condos said.
Both had to qualify against athletes all over the globe. They will compete against thousands later this month in Los Angeles.
"It's a different way of thinking, but it's the community you bring together, the friends you build," Horan said.
"I started this for my physical core strength and now it's become the core of who I am," Condos said.
Two women digging deep for a fierce competition that has already changed their lives.
The Crossfit Games will be held July 26-28. They will be aired on ESPN on a later date.
