Will hot weather increase your power bills?

Posted: Updated:

Green Mountain Power is encouraging people and businesses to turn down their air conditioners during peak hours of the late afternoon and early evening, because the amount of energy used this summer could mean we have to pay for more energy down the road.

"We have an obligation to have power supply for our customers' max load and there is a cost associated with that. If we keep that max load smaller, then there is a lower cost associated with that," explained Dotty Schnure with Green Mountain Power.

Green Mountain Power says there is enough energy in the grid to meet the increase in demand during these hot days.
