A Vermonter is the internet's latest unlikely viral video star, and experts say it's no surprise based on the video's content.
Doug Owen posted the minute-long clip of his barehanded fishing on YouTube to share with his family and friends. But then the video went viral, racking up more than half a million hits. Owen said it certainly wasn't something he was trying for and he never expected it.
Social media expert Nicole Ravlin says the video's almost unbelievable content primes it for the web spotlight.
"If you look at how he's tagged this-- none of this should work for getting him just about over 700,000 views at this point. So, it truly is something that people were passing on from one person to the next that really got this for him," said Nicole Ravlin of PMG Public Relations.
Ravlin says major companies are spending serious money to try to achieve what Owen did by accident. But she says his fishing video is proof that people, not companies decide what takes off on the web.
