ACs selling like hot cakes in Vt.

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Air conditioners are a hot commodity this week.

At Ace Hardware in Burlington, the store manager says sales for both ACs and fans were mediocre until this week when temperatures starting creeping into the 90s. Now they're flying off the shelves. Manager Pete Casselman says many people are calling first to see if they have any air conditioners because many other stores are sold out.

"What we find, especially with the ACs, is that they don't sell until the heat hits. People don't tend to buy them in advance planning for a hot summer. They sell when people are hot and miserable and need to escape the heat," Casselman said.

At Ace, the average cost of an AC unit is $150-$300.
