Keeping cool at the Clinton County Fair

Posted: Updated:

Rides, food and lots of fun-- what isn't at this year's Clinton County Fair?

"Calves and pigs are things you don't see every day," fairgoer Zachary Swyers said.

Oh yeah, and some farm friends, too. More than 30,000 visitors are expected for the 66th annual fair on the Plattsburgh fairgrounds. But despite all the fun, no one can ignore how hot it is. So we asked fairgoers what tips they had to beat the heat.

"I would come to the fair at night or go and get paper towels and cool off in the bathroom," fairgoer Emma Caton said.

"Trying to get as much shade as I can and drink lots of fluids," fairgoer Mason Dubay advised.

"Bring sunscreen and drink a lot of water and come and have fun," fairgoer Caitlynn Osborne said.

But the favorite tip from most of the kids was using what the fair has to offer-- rides with speed.

"Some of the rides you get a breeze," fairgoer Macey Kipp-Bachard said.

"You get the joy of running in circles. All the rides are based on circles and you just fly around. It gets your energy out and you hit your high points," Caton said.

And managers say this year the fair has offered more shaded spots and designated air-conditioned areas. So, if you're up for some fun with a lot of sun, the fair is the place to be.

The fair charges $8 for adults; it's free for children under 12. Click here for more information.
