Lightning sparked a house fire in Bakersfield Wednesday night.
Firefighters say the two-story home at 287 North Main Street was hit by lightning from a passing storm. The homeowner's son tried to fight the fire himself.
"The owner's son was home. He did verify that it was a lightning strike. He did attempt to put the fire out with a bucket of water, but it was beyond his means at that point," Bakersfield Fire Chief Todd Cosgrove said.
No one was injured and firefighters were able to save the front part of the house.
