Police hit the roof to raise money

BARRE, Vt. -

There was quite a sight in South Barre Friday-- police officers hanging out on a roof.

"Cop on Top" began Friday. Montpelier Police Chief Tony Facos and Washington County Sheriff Sam Hill are hanging out on top of the Wilkins Harley-Davidson building. They'll stay there for 24 hours in an effort to raise money for Vermont Special Olympics.

"You can come donate anytime. We have people still showing up 3 o'clock in the morning, 4 o'clock in the morning. Part of it, they want to see if we really are still up on the roof, and we are. So, we welcome people to stop on down and help support the cause," Facos said.

"Just put some money in the tube, ring the bell, and we'll be there for you to pull it up," Hill said.

The event also includes a fashion show Friday night and Saturday when they come off the roof there's a hot dog eating contest.
