Road project to give Morrisville new look

Posted: Updated:
MORRISVILLE, Vt. -

A road project in Morrisville will give the downtown a new look.

Town planners say the state's bypass project, first envisioned 40 years ago and expected to be completed by next September, remains on schedule.

They say the move will create a better downtown atmosphere and traffic pattern by diverting large rigs around the town.

"I think that having that traffic move to the alternate truck route is really going to do some great things for the downtown, improve the walkability and allow people to really access the businesses and services that are here much easier," said Dan Lindley, the town administrator in Morristown.

Routes 100 and 15 meet in Morrisville, leading to frequent traffic backups, but commuters will be able to skip the busy intersection when the project is complete.

Administrators say because the new road will be a limited-access highway, significant development is unlikely to pop up along the link.
