Books Over Breakfast: 'The No Recipe Cookbook'

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Plenty of cookbooks are out there full of delicious recipes -- but for beginners who have questions in the kitchen, those often don't provide the answers they need.

Susan Crowther, author of "The No Recipe Cookbook: A Beginner's Guide to the Art of Cooking" shows us some basic principles.

She will be at Healthy Living Wednesday, July 24, for a book signing from 11:30-2:30.

Bean Salad:

Ingredients:

Main ingredient: Beans

Today we used Aduki and Northern beans *

Accessory Ingredients: FARE WELL-Fresh, Ripe, Whole, and Local veggies and herbs

Today we used heirloom tomatoes, mesclun mix, and garlic scapes

Marinade: Basic Marinade of Olive Oil and Balsamic vinegar, Salt and Pepper

Today we added basil and parsley

 

Procedure:

-- Pre-cook beans.

-- Make marinade.

-- Chop all veggies and herbs.

-- Add marinade to beans.

-- Add veggies and herbs to beans.

-- Adjust seasonings to taste.

 

*We cooked beans with some seaweed, to reduce their gas.

** This dish enjoys marinating. Prepare a few hours before serving.
