Seven Days: Neighbors dislike mosquito spraying

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

For years, the Brandon-Leicester-Salisbury-Goshen Insect Control District sprayed a chemical pesticide called malathion. But now some residents are asking the district to stop spraying so close to their properties.

Last year, two people -- from Brandon and Sudbury -- died from Eastern equine encephalitis, a mosquito-borne disease. And last week, mosquitoes in Addison County tested positive for West Nile virus. However, some residents are concerned that the pesticide targeting mosquitoes could actually be harming their plants and their livelihood.

Seven Days reporter Ken Picard covered this story in his latest article.
