RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A former Vermont fire captain has been convicted of conspiring to set fires on public land.
A federal jury on Wednesday found former Wallingford Fire Department Captain George Allen guilty following a 2-day trial.
The Rutland Herald reports that Allen faces a potential sentence of 5 years in prison.
Allen was convicted of directing younger firefighters to set wildfires around Wallingford in 2008, including in the Green Mountain National Forest on the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail parking lot and the White Rocks trail head.
