WOODSTOCK, Vt. -

More details about a motel bookkeeper accused of ripping off her employers.

Pamela Smith, 56, pleaded not guilty to embezzlement and forgery charges after police say she stole more than $220,000 from the Shire Riverview motel in Woodstock over a six-year period.

Police say the owner discovered the crime after returning from a vacation and noticing a low balance in the motel's account. She soon discovered a series of checks written on the company account to Smith totaling $60,000. Further investigation showed Smith had paid $81,000 in personal bills online from the hotel's account. Police are still trying to account for $80,000 in missing cash.
