Vermont State police say a Glover man has confessed to shooting and killing a woman in Barton.
Police say this afternoon they found 72-year-old Rachel Coburn dead inside her home on West Street from an apparent gunshot wound. Police have identified her alleged shooter as 76-year-old Carlton Bickford.
Bickford told police he and Coburn were arguing. He said he left her at home then returned with a shotgun and killed her. Bickford then tried to turn the gun on himself, but the bullet grazed his shoulder. He then drove to the Lyndonville Police Department and turned himself in.
State police are processing the scene. Coburn's body will be taken to the chief medical examiner's officer for autopsy. Bickford is being held at a St. Johnsbury prison charged with first degree murder.
