MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is reminding all migratory bird hunters that they must register with the Federal Harvest Information Program.
The requirement includes youth, permanent and lifetime license holders, all of whom must register with the program each year in each state in which they hunt.
Vermont Fish and Wildlife allows those hunters to register online or by phone.
A list of the hunters is provided to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service each year to be used as part of national migratory game bird harvest surveys. The estimates will be used to make decisions about setting hunting season dates, bag limits and population management for ducks, geese, coots, snipe and woodcock.
