The owner of the Vermont Yankee
nuclear plant says about 30 jobs will be cut by the end of the year.
Entergy had warned that cuts were on
the way at its facilities around the country as part of a reorganization.
The layoffs at Vermont Yankee are
among about 800 throughout the company. The specific jobs being cut at Yankee
have not yet been determined, but company officials say they will make sure the
reductions don't pose any hazards to the plant's operation.
Entergy has been fighting a legal and permitting battle
with the state of Vermont to keep the Vernon plant open. That's despite
analysis on Wall Street that the plant's profitability has declined and it
could be ripe for closure.
