Study: Vermont worker's comp system is flawed

Posted: Updated:

A new study says there are numerous flaws in the way state officials record, review and prevent workplace injuries.

There are only two safety coordinators in the compensation and injury prevention office. A review in 2003 suggested there should be five or eight.

State Auditor Doug Hoffer says those additional staff could pay for themselves by preventing future claims.

In the last five years, Vermont has seen 4,800 job related injuries, and paid out a $8 million in worker's comp claims.
