BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont companies are being encouraged to increase their exports to Hong Kong.
Anita Chan, director of Hong Kong's Economic and Trade Office in New York, visited Vermont for the first time on Tuesday. She told the Burlington Free Press that she hopes more Vermont companies will take advantage of Hong Kong's free market economy and appetite for fine goods.
Hong Kong already is the third largest export market for Vermont companies, accounting for $243 million in sales, behind Canada and China. Chan says exports from Vermont of computers and electronic products have increased about 600 percent in the last decade.
