SEIU drops out of home care workers election

Posted: Updated:

One of the two unions battling to represent home care workers in Vermont has pulled out of the process.

Members of the Service Employees International Union marched in Montpelier in June as they petitioned the Labor Relations Board to get on the ballot for an upcoming union election.

SEIU was vying with the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees for a chance to represent about 7,000 home health care workers in the state. But after hearing from providers that the union battle was creating a divisive atmosphere, the Service union says it is withdrawing from the election and offering its full support to AFSCME.
