Pistol-packing Milton man cited in 2010

Posted: Updated:
RUTLAND, Vt. -

An update on the story of a Milton man who says he was wrongly detained by police for carrying a gun in public.

Twenty-six year-old Joshua Severance complained to Rutland's police chief after two city officers cuffed him and questioned him after seeing him walking down Summer Street with a gun clipped to his belt. Severance rightly points out that Vermont has no laws preventing him from carrying a gun.

But Severance had at least one bad experience while carrying a gun. In 2010, Colchester police say Severance tripped and accidentally fired his gun, hitting himself in the hand and his girlfriend in the hip. In that incident, Severance was cited for reckless endangerment.
