The High School Football Season kicks off August 30th. Monday, teams were on the practice fields for the official start of training camps. That includes the defending Division-2 State Champs at Rice Memorial High School. The Green Knights went undefeated on their way to capturing their second state title in three years.
In fact, it was dominating seasons for all three defending State Champs. Hartford won it's third straight Division-1 State Title after completing a second straight undefeated season. In Division-3, Woodstock captured it's second straight state title and the tenth in program history. The Wasps also ran the table to the championship.
All three of these teams have lost key contributors due to graduation, but that's the story ever season. However, these schools all seem to replenish the roster without missing a beat.
"The schools that make it to the championship games are working hard and doing the right things," Rice Football coach Neil Brodeur says. "They're not there by chance."
"When you have the coaching staff we have, combined with kids who really, really want to win and want to compete combined with great leadership in seniors, it's a formula for success anywhere," Rice Senior Captain Michael Morrissey says.
