Police ID man found dead in Lake Champlain

Posted: Updated:

Police say a man whose body was found in Lake Champlain in Burlington Thursday morning drowned.

Police were called to the Harborwatch condominiums on the Burlington Bay at about 9:30 a.m. Residents had spotted the body of a man partly in the water and partly on the rocks just below the condo complex.

The man has been identified as Gregory Peruzzi, 39, of Burlington. Early reports show the victim drowned, but police are not sure when.

"I'm not sure we know exactly. It does not appear that he had been in the water very long, but an exact time frame is unclear. Our best guess is just since last night," Burlington Police Chief Mike Schirling said.

While police do not currently suspect foul play, they are still investigating. Anyone with information on Peruzzi's whereabouts or activities over the past two days is asked to call Burlington Police at 802-658-2704.
