Study: Vending machines linked to youth obesity

HANOVER, N.H. -

Researchers at Dartmouth say vending machines in school may contribute to obesity.

They looked at 26 schools in Vermont and New Hampshire. They found the most common drinks were sugary, flavored waters and other sugar-sweetened beverages made up two-thirds of the offerings. And they found schools in urban areas had less machine-front advertising and fewer sugary drinks.

That study appears in the journal Public Health.
