LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 58-year-old northern New York man has been found after he went missing while hiking a trail in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks.
Officials with the state Department of Environmental Conservation say forest rangers and state police began searching the 37-mile section of the Northville-Placid Trail and surrounding wilderness areas Thursday morning after Larry White of Canton failed to reach his destination after starting out from Lake Placid on Aug. 7.
DEC officials say White was expected to arrive in Long Lake on Wednesday.
He was found around 4:30 p.m. Thursday just off the trail near Noah Rondeau's Hermitage, located near the Franklin and Essex county line. Officials say White appeared exhausted and dehydrated, but refused medical treatment after being provided with food, water and transportation out of the woods.
