ALTONA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an 8-year-old northern New York girl is recovering from serious injuries suffered during an attack by pit bull that latched onto her neck.
State police tell the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that the girl was attacked Monday as she approached a home next door to a relative's house in the rural town of Altona, near the Canadian border 155 miles north of Albany.
Investigators say the homeowner's 2-year-old pit bull ran out of the front door and attacked the girl, biting her in the face, head, neck, hands and legs before the owner pulled the dog off.
Police say the girl was treated at the Plattsburgh hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators say the dog will likely be euthanized.
