People may have touched rabid raccoons in NY

Posted: Updated:
PERU, N.Y. -

An urgent call from health officials in northern New York to people who may have been exposed to rabies.

Three baby raccoons captured at the public boat launch in Peru in early July have died and at least one of them tested positive for rabies.

Health officials say people were seen taking pictures of the animals and possibly handling them.

Anyone who did touch one of the raccoons should be evaluated for potential exposure to rabies.
