Norwich University welcomed part of the class of 2017 to campus Sunday.
The first year students, better known as "Rooks," were welcomed by university President Richard Schneider, and were told that Sunday marks the first day of a new journey to success. All the Rooks hope to one day join the military.
"Be leaders in the community, be leaders in the services, be leaders in the corporate life. That's what America needs," Schneider said.
"It's kind of hit me that it's real now -- the nerves are starting to set in," said Robert Lemnah, an incoming Rook.
466 Rooks checked in, and the university expects another 200 civilian first year students to arrive later this week.
