A Vermont corrections
officer is dead following a fiery crash on Route 5 in Coventry.
State police say
57-year-old Timothy Harrington's car crossed the center line and collided with
a tractor trailer. Police say the Newport corrections officer was not wearing
his seatbelt and died at the scene.
The driver of the truck escaped
as his rig burst into flames. He suffered minor injuries.
Corrections officials say Harrington was
under investigation for a personnel matter at the time of the crash but would
not elaborate on the allegations against him.
