Sanders urges veterans to use VA

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Senator Bernie Sanders says more needs to be done to connect Vermont Veterans with VA programs.

Among the programs provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs is Telehealth, which allows veterans to use multiple providers to access physical and psychological care. The senator says more veterans should take advantage of it.  A community based outreach clinic is another program designed to assist vets. There is already one of those clinics in Rutland and now there is one coming to Burlington.

"I believe in October we are going to be opening a brand new building at the old GE building in Lakeside -- which we just toured -- and it's going to be a beautiful outreach facility for Veterans in this part of the state," Sen. Sanders said.

The VA currently serves 25,000 veterans here in Vermont but hopes to reach another 50,000 in the community.
