NEWFANE, Vt. (AP) - Property owners in Newfane, Vt., are waiting to hear more about repairs needed to an aging dam that's holding back a 20-acre pond.
The state has declared the dam at the pond, known as Grout or Kenny Pond, in poor condition.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports an engineer will examine the dam to determine the extent of the repairs needed.
The cost of the engineer's assessment will be split between the town and property owners.
Officials say the current dam was built in the 1930s. Today, the pond and dam are privately owned by a trust that includes members of three families. The trust permits some public use of a portion of the pond for fishing and swimming.
