Judge: Westminster zoning rule is discriminatory

Posted: Updated:

A judge has ruled that a zoning requirement in the town of Westminster is discriminatory.

The town had ordered a state-licensed residential care home for people with disabilities to get a zoning permit. But the attorney general's office says under state law such homes should be considered like any other single-family residence and not be required to get additional permits.

A Superior Court judge agreed, ordering the town to amend its zoning ordinance to comply with the anti-discrimination statute.
