AT&T Inc. customers can now text for help in Vermont.
The wireless carrier has been working with the Vermont 9-1-1 Board to allow users to text 911 for emergency phone calls. The company warns to text only when calling is not an option. It also advises to clearly explain your location and what the emergency situation is. And don't text abbreviations or slang.
The emergency services include local police, fire or emergency medical responders. The board is working with four other carriers for emergency texts.
