MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont's congressional delegation says the federal government has provided more than $556 million to help the state recover from damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene.

On Friday, the delegation released figures that show a variety of federal agencies have spent or promised to spend money in a variety of categories including $210 million for public assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and $150 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for highway repairs.

The Small Business Administration has made more than $35 million in loans to homeowners and businesses.

The Aug. 28, 2011 storm dropped up to 11 inches of rain on parts of the state. It killed six people, destroyed or damaged more than 500 miles of roads and 200 bridges and thousands of people were left homeless.
