Mountain rescue required for ATV accident

Posted: Updated:
EDEN, Vt. -

A mountain rescue in Eden after an ATV accident.

It happened yesterday afternoon on the Lowell Mountain range. Police say a couple from Tennessee, who were originally from Essex, crashed their ATV while riding with a group. Multiple departments responded including the Johnson Fire Department with four wheelers. One of the riders was air lifted from the scene. A second was taken from the scene by ambulance. Emergency responders say the area where the crash took place was rugged.

The Johnson Fire Department was on the scene.

"Because it was an ATV trail, we were able to get very close to the scene," said Assistant Fire Chief Peter Dodge. "Unfortunate for the accident, but fortunately, there was a trail close enough for us to get in there and it did speed up the patient removal."

At this time WCAX does not know what caused the crash or the extent of the injuries.
