Legal analysis of Vt. Yankee closing

Posted: Updated:
VERNON, Vt. -

Years of legal fights, protests over safety and arguments over low-cost power and high paying jobs have come to this. Tuesday, Vermont Yankee announced it will close by the end of 2014.

Yankee officials say the decision was not based on the legal and political battles to stay open in Vermont. Instead they say keeping it open is too costly. Natural gas is so cheap that Yankee's nuclear power is not cost competitive. The announcement was a bombshell and raises a lot of questions about what will happen at the Vernon plant.

Law expert Cheryl Hanna has been following Vermont Yankee in and out of court for years. She discusses what comes next.
